Tates Motors Orewa | ? | Tates Motors Limited
became a fully owned subsidiary of the North
Shore Transport Company following the resignation of former directors
and shareholders, Clarissa and Alf Tate, in July 1954.
The Company continued to trade as Tates Motors Limited, using buses owned by North Shore Transport, under a Transport Service Licence issued in the name of Tates Motors Limited. To meet legal requiremnents NST buses carried a "Tates Motors" window sign. Following a decision by Tates Board of Directors the assets and liabilities of the Company were taken over by North Shore Transport and its operations absorbed into the parent Company during the year ending 31 March 1960. By decision of the No.2 Transport Licensing Authority Tates TSL was transferred to NST in September 1960 and the window sign was no longer required. Seven drivers employed by Tates were transferred to NST in October 1960. Tates Motors Limited was finally struck off the Register of Companies on 1 July 1961. Tates Motors name continued to appear on NST timetable publications until early 1965 and although NST promoted the service as the "Hibiscus Coast Service" from 1962 it was regularly referred to internally within NST as Tates Motors. |
