Charles Lovell Motu | 1916 | Foundation member of the AARD Motor group. A series of Hudson Service cars starting in 1916. Charles Lovell also had a Cadillac Service Car. In 1920 He bought two buses and had formed his business into the DUCO Motor Group. Charles died unexpectedly in 1926 and the business was later rationalised in conjunction with Jack Musgrave. Three of the Lovell boys (Monty, Reg and Cyril ) bought Musgraves Opotiki Taxi business and Dick Whittington and George Lovell continued driving buses now working for Jack Musgrave. Dick Whittington drove for Musgrave on the Opotiki-Gisborne route and then did the same after it was acquired from Musgrave by NZR Road Services until he retired in about 1963 or 1964. |
