In 1981 Newmans Coach Lines acquired a Bedford YMT with a Plaxton Supreme body. The body was shipped to New Zealand in kitset form and assembled by NZ Motor Bodies. NZ Motor Bodies hoped that this would be the first of many but it turned out to be the only. No new Plaxton bodies have come to New zealand since then although several Bedfords and Fords have been imported used from UK. Note the NZMB labels on the rear mudflap.
Newmans 095 was allocated to the Whangarei Depot. In 1981 the need for workers buses for construction projects at
Marsden Pt made Whangarei Newmans' biggest depot. Photo Ivan Prince.
The same coach at Leabourn Passenger Services in 2005. Most of Leabourns school runs include gravel roads. The buses
had not been washed the day I visited. The NZMB decals have now gone from the mudflap. Photo Mike Butler.
